Shreyas Puranik: An Indian singer, music composer, and songwriter, Shreyas Puranik has left an indelible mark on the Hindi film industry. Born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, in 1993, his journey is a symphony of creativity, versatility, and innovation.
Early Life and Musical Roots
Growing up in Nagpur, Shreyas was exposed to devotional songs and Gujarati folk tunes. His native city is Ahmedabad, Gujarat. However, his musical journey took a unique turn when he formed the band “Om the Fusion Band” during his college days. Alongside fellow musicians Amartya, Shriram Iyer, Ram, and Vish, they performed at local gigs and small shows. Their talent caught the attention of Times Music, leading to the launch of their album. Although the album didn’t receive much promotion, it laid the foundation for Shreyas’s future endeavors.
Diverse Career Path
Shreyas’s artistic pursuits extended beyond film music. He composed for theater (in Hindi, English, and Gujarati), created background music for television shows, and worked on programming for Marathi films. Additionally, he dabbled in composing advertisement jingles for brands like McDonald’s and Airtel.
His breakthrough came when sound engineer Arvind Vishwakarma introduced him to Sony BMG. Shreyas began composing music for non-film albums, including tracks for Abhijeet Sawant’s “Junoon” and Prashant Tamang’s debut album. However, it was Anurag Kashyap who recognized Shreyas’s distinct musical vision. Kashyap sought a composer who could push boundaries and create unconventional music for his film. Shilpa Rao recommended Shreyas, leading to his chance to compose the soundtrack for “Dev.D”. Although production delays initially hindered its release, the film eventually became a milestone in Shreyas’s career.
