“Ganapath: A Hero is Born” is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language dystopian action film written and directed by Vikas Bahl. The film, produced in association with Jackky Bhagnani, Vashu Bhagnani, and Deepshikha Deshmukh, features an ensemble cast including Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon, Amitabh Bachchan, Elli AvrRam, and Rahman.
Plot Summary:
In the year 2070, a destructive war leaves the world divided by a towering wall. The rich reside in the opulent city of Silver City, led by the formidable Dalini, while the poor struggle for basic necessities in a decimated city controlled by Silver City. Amidst this stark divide, we meet Guddu, who works for Dalini’s henchman, John, conducting boxing matches and earning money through bets placed by the wealthy.
One day, John assigns Guddu the task of taking his girlfriend, Dimple, to a nightclub. However, things take a dark turn when Dimple gets physical with Guddu, and John catches them in the act. John buries them alive, but miraculously, Guddu survives. Enter Kaizad, who reveals Guddu’s true identity—he is Ganapath, the legendary savior predicted by Maharishi Dalapathi. Guddu receives combat training under Shiva, a combat trainer, and his confident Jassi. As Ganapath, he deceives John, Dalini, and their henchmen, pretending to be on their side while secretly fighting for the oppressed.
Trained as an accomplished fighter, Ganapath wins matches for John, all the while pretending disinterest in their cause. He persuades John and Dalini’s associates to bet their money on his opponent in the final match, planning to lose intentionally. Additionally, he convinces them to allow the poor to wager their savings on this match. The twist? Ganapath intends to lose, leaving John and his associates to profit further by snatching money from the poor, leaving them in a miserable state.
As the film unfolds, Ganapath’s dual role, the dystopian setting, and the battle for justice create a gripping narrative. The film takes us on a roller-coaster ride of action, suspense, and intrigue.
Reception:
Upon its theatrical release on 20th October 2023, “Ganapath: A Hero is Born” received negative reviews from critics and turned out to be a major box office bomb. Despite the critical reception, the film’s premise and Tiger Shroff’s performance garnered attention.
